The Vortex 851R enables users to print labels on-demand, providing more flexibility and creativity while saving storage costs. The roll-fed digital machine offers full-color drop on-demand thermal inkjet printing through its 70,400 nozzles on the Memjet printhead. It can print full-color FAST.

Kodak Dedicates New "Real World" Demo Center
Bob Hall at MyPrintSource.com reported today that Kodak in mid-October celebrated the opening of its first-ever "live" Digital Production Demo Center located at ImageMark, an 110,000 square-foot full-service printing facility in Gastonia, NC. The on-site facility will give potential Kodak customers the opportunity to see various types of Kodak digital production equipment in action in a "real world" daily production environment.

Distributor Agreement Announced On "Diamond" Sheetfed Presses Manufactured By Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Printing & Packaging Machinery, Ltd. (MHI-PPM), one of the world's largest graphic machinery suppliers, has announced that the company has agreed in principle with RM Machinery Inc. (RMM) that RMM will be the authorized distributor of "Diamond" brand sheetfed offset presses manufactured by MHI-PPM.

Pitney Bowes Sells Pitney Bowes Management Services
Pitney Bowes sold Pitney Bowes Management Services for $400 million in cash to funds affiliated with Apollo Global Management, LLC. Proceeds from the sale of the business will be used principally to pay down debt, said a Pitney Bowes statement. The new company is now called Novitex Enterprise Solutions, with John Visentin as the newly appointed Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.


PRODECO Launches New Paper Handling And Storage System For Wide Image Printers
It will be sold under their 'HangMyMedia'® trade name. Based around a unique hang device designed to support wide image media rolls from 15" to 64" wide, the system offers various rolling carts used to efficiently store and easily transport paper stock throughout a production shop. Hardware is also available for stationary hanging storage along walls.

2013 Golf Outing A HUGE Success!
116 golfers enjoyed the festivities of Maple Meadows Golf Club in Wood Dale at the first Chicagoland Printers Scholarship Golf Outing. This new venue was presented by the Graphic Communications Guild, the Great Lakes Graphics Association and the Lithographers Club of Chicago, all combining their efforts to generate funds to support the GCG and LCC scholarship programs. And thank you to the GLGA for contributing its share to each club. Over $8,000 was raised for the scholarship programs.

M&R Challenger Sets New World Record
During this year's FESPA in London, Luis Omar Viera used M&R's high-performance Challenger lll D J4 automatic screen-printing press, M&R's Passport automatic T-shirt uploader, and M&R's Fusion electric conveyer dryer to set a new world record of 2,139 T-shirts screen-printed in one hour by a single operator. This eclipsed his previous record of 1,909 screen-printed T-shirts.

2013 Ratios Survey Shows Profits Up
The 2013 Ratios Survey complied by Printing Industries of America shows printing industry profits are increasing. Printers participating in this year's Ratios Survey attained average profit rates of 2.7 percent on sales, up from 1.8 percent last year. This is the highest level in the past six years, but it is still not back to the pre-recession level of 3.1 percent in 2008.


OKI Data Promotes Carl Taylor To VP of Marketing For North America

Historic Library Donated To Cal Poly
Printing Industries of America has agreed to donate to Cal Poly its Edward H. Wadewitz Memorial Library, considered the largest, most complete, and most valuable graphic communication library in the world. Rare materials from the collection will be added to the Special Collections and Archives department of the university's Robert E. Kennedy Library. The main Wadewitz collection will be housed at a site to be prepared on the Cal Poly campus.

SPE Annual Technical Conference (ANTEC)
Will be held from April 27 to May 1, 2014, in Las Vegas, NV. Standard Register has acquired WorkflowOne in a transaction valued at $218 million. Standard Register says the transaction advances its revenue position, enhances its product and solutions portfolio, broadens its customer base, improves its cost structure, and provides greater financial flexibility and stability.
