editor's note: Ever wonder what goes on in the mind of a president of an acquiring company? John Burkemper, President of Grimco clearly tells us in the article below.
GRIMCO.... A Year After Proveer Acquisition
It has been a year since Grimco acquired the U.S. operations of Proveer and it was quite a task. In the first 90 days, we physically combined 11 of the 15 locations that were based in the same cities. At the same time, we merged the operations and computer systems of both companies while training our new associates. See More/Less
Grimco also inherited several new vendors, which meant all 39 of our locations needed to get product training as well. Although it was a tough task, the implementation went even smoother than we had planned.
After the operational tasks were completed, we needed to start connecting with our customer base. So we started pushing the message of being "Fast, Friendly and Growing". These three things are very important in what we do and are entrenched into our culture. Fast describes our order entry procedure. When you call Grimco, your call will typically be answered in about 5 seconds by a knowledgeable salesperson. Or if you prefer to buy on line, we have the easiest web store in the industry. Friendly represents our focus on personable customer service. We are very picky with whom we hire. We go through hundreds of resumes to hire one person. We train them well. But everything we do and teach is based around the customer's needs. It is the most important part of our culture. Growing can be misinterpreted at times. But what we mean by mentioning growth is that it is important to us to keep improving and growing so we can stay on the cutting edge of technology, and as well, stay competitive so we can pass savings on to our customers.
With any acquisition there are always hurdles that need to be cleared. But in hindsight, the Proveer deal has been very good for Grimco, our employees and our customers.

Their host was Brett Beaumont, Director, who founded Think Office Technology in Gladstone in 1993 and is the only Australian member in the organization. DC
