ON DEMAND the trade show that lost its focus IS NO MORE

When a business closes, there are some who become gurus saying this is what should have been, and what we should have done. In all that I read and heard about On Demand trade show, I have one thing to share with my dealer readers to think about. Don't Lose Your Focus.

The word focus may seem fuzzy to you if you're transitioning from Offset, for example, to Wide Format. One way to clear that fuzziness is to connect with dealers you know that have shifted some of their focus gently and safely while keeping close to their existing offset customers.

I invite you to come to the Global Dealer Summit at the Graph Expo trade show in Chicago. See the ad in this issue. There will be a networking booth where you can meet with other dealers to discuss your business and meet manufacturers that you've not met before.

GRIMCO..... planned for the August issue is an interview with John Burkemper, President, CEO. As I thought about the acquisition Grimco made this past month, I thought about how chess players position chess pieces on the board for future moves. Hopefully, Mr. Burkemper will share insights that raise the hopes we all have in the industries in which we work....and serve.

LAST POINT FOR TODAY IS A COMPLAINT MADE BY A NUMBER OF MANUFACTURERS... .and you can't fault them! The complaint is that dealers do not do any marketing. From the results of a survey I conducted personally, I would say That Is True.

So - - let's talk for a minute. If you get the message and want to talk about how to improve your marketing, I'll be happy to take your call at 954 971 4360.

What is marketing? In simple terms, letting people know what you have, what the benefits of ownership are for your customers, where to get it, etc.

OK here's a short list to ponder.

  • 1. We all know that times are tough. BUT, don't stop marketing.
  • 2. Customers will determine your worth, not the brands you promote. Once you've convinced them of your worth to them they'll trust you to sell them off-brands as well.
  • 3. There's an expression that says TOP OF MIND is critical to position your company in your selling territory. One way is to hire an army of sales people.
